DIY Polytunnel Installation
Congratulations! You've taken the plunge and decided to buy a domestic polytunnel from PolytunnelsRus. After careful discussions with our experienced team, you are confident your new polytunnel will be the perfect addition to your garden. All that's left is to take delivery and start your polytunnel installation.
Site Preparation
When selecting your site, you should choose a flat or gently sloping piece of ground free from obstructions on all sides. You need to leave approx 1m space on all sides to ease your polytunnel installation and future cleaning.
If you are installing your polytunnel on a slope, ensure it runs up and down the slope, not across it. Your ground tubes need to be level to secure the structure, which is extremely difficult on a sloping surface.
Position the Ground
Tubes
You need to position the ground tubes at right angles. Verify the angles using a 3:4:5 triangle. Depending on the manufacturer's instructions, secure the ground tubes into place. If your kit suggests digging into place, but you would prefer to use anchor bolts or plates then contact PolytunnelsRus for additional polytunnel supplies.
Construct the Frame
Once all the groundwork and footings are complete its time to start constructing your polytunnel frame. We recommend buying a few extra polytunnel supplies in case of accidents. A roll of repair tape and hotspot tape are useful to have on hand and will always be of use in the future.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for assembling your polytunnel. Depending on the size, you can attempt to build it on your own, but it will be easier with another person's help.
The typical. Order of construction is hoops, then ridge pole and then any additional bracing.
Trenches and Base Rails
There are two ways to secure a polytunnel cover. You can either dig a 30cmx30cm trench around your polytunnel or install a base rail.
Covering the Tunnel
Use the hotspot tape to cover all frame surfaces that will come into contact with the cover. Also, make sure you cover any rough edges. Now pull the cover over the frame. Don't attempt it in windy conditions as you may damage your polytunnel or cover. Once the cover is in place, secure it by backfilling the trench or fixing it to the base rail. Try to get the cover night and taught.
Fitting the Doors
Finally, you can fit the doors, and you are finished. You will need to install latches to keep the doors closed but make sure you can open doors from both sides!
Lastly, we recommend you store the manufacturer's instructions in a safe place for future reference. Remember, PolytunnelsRus stock a full range of polytunnel supplies. We can help you remodel, extend or recover your polytunnel whenever your needs change.
