It's also best to dig the ground over to avoid damaging the cover once the polytunnel tunnel is in place. However, if you plan to install raised garden beds, don't install them until the tunnel is complete. Depending on their position, they could restrict access to the polytunnel roof when trying to secure your cover.

 

If you manage to rope in a friend or partner, you can easily build a domestic or garden polytunnel over a weekend. While it's important to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions, there is one universal piece of advice - do not attempt to build a polytunnel on a windy day. Strong winds will make construction more difficult and could also damage your polytunnel before you get a chance to use it.

 

Commercial Polytunnels

It's worth considering using a professional installation team rather than attempting the job yourself when it comes to commercial polytunnels. While it's not impossible to construct your own commercial polytunnel, especially if it's a simple design, the larger or more complex multi-span polytunnels may require specialist equipment. A professional installation team will prepare all the necessary machinery and safety equipment to complete an installation efficiently with minimum fuss. Self-installation may seem like a cost-saving, but if it results in an injury, then it could well be a false economy.
